Back and blue

July 2nd, 2008

So if you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been away. Away on work no less, but not for the Eleventh Commandment. This work was for Nuts TV again and I got to do the Bullrun 08. Now don’t get confused here, one is a race through the streets to get away from fat sweaty animals and one involves cows.

Basically it is a really up-market Cannonball run style of thing that I brought down in the posh stakes with my low rent shenanigans.

These ranged from locking my keys in the boot on the start line which has been immortalized by this handheld piece of youtube gold…..

…..To every woman I rode with trying to kill me by way of a automobile accident. I really bring the best out of the female species. Now I shan’t tell you anymore as the whole lot is going up onto the Nuts website over the next few weeks. You can find that here.

I shall leave you though with the item that is top of my christmas wish list this year. I’m sure Santa knows how to get hold of one………

How companies get their name!

June 17th, 2008

Since we’ve recently had a company name change here at Podshow. I.e In the US the company is no longer called Podshow it’s called Mevio…I think it stands for my view..but don’t quote me on it. I started thinking about how other companies got their names…and here in case you’re wondering are some interesting stories..I’m not sure if they are all true though so don’t quote me on it!

Apple Computers

It was the favourite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn’t suggest a better name by 5 O’clock.

CISCO

It is not an acronym as popularly believed. It is short for San Francisco.

Compaq

This name was formed by using COMp, for computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object.

Corel

The name was derived from the founder’s name Dr.Michael Cowpland. It stands for COwpland REsearch Laboratory.

Google

The name started as a joke boasting about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named ‘Googol’, a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders - Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to ‘Google’

Hotmail

Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in ‘mail’ and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters “html” - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective uppercasing.

Hewlett Packard

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

Intel

Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company ‘Moore Noyce’ but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

Lotus (Notes)

Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from ‘The Lotus Position’ or ‘Padmasana’. Kapor used to be a teacher of Transcendental Meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Microsoft

Coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the ‘-’ was removed later on.

Motorola

Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called Victrola.

ORACLE

Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was called Oracle (the CIA saw this as the system to give answers to all questions or something such). The project was designed to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The project eventually was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish what they started and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle and created the RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the company.

Sony

It originated from the Latin word ’sonus’ meaning sound, and ’sonny’ a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.

SUN

Founded by 4 Stanford University buddies, SUN is the acronym for Stanford University Network. Andreas Bechtolsheim built a microcomputer; Vinod Khosla recruited him and Scott McNealy to manufacture computers based on it, and Bill Joy to develop a UNIX-based OS for the computer.

Yahoo!

The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos

Filmekanik

hmmmm

I myself think the win was how shall we say it…allowed! But Chess Boxing is a great new sport and I reckon it could catch on. Garry Kasparov vs IBM’s Deep Blue Computer…hmm

Fight fight fight

June 12th, 2008

Its up and I’m a stone cold killer!

Actually I’m not, I’m a terrible boxer and somehow fluked a check mate (ten years, 2 games, 2 wins - I am all that is man) Tim Woolgar (Mr Chess Boxing) swears that he didn’t let me win and me and my ego believe hi. So if anyone fancies themselves in a game of chess then be prepared as I am then new Bobby Fisher.

This is how I felt when I got home

The one thing missing from the show is James getting his head kicked in by Tim that I filmed at the end…… watch this blog as I intend to get it……

Kasparov this!

June 5th, 2008

S0 we have shot a new show and it is currently being edited…… not by james as he’s swanned off to America for a wedding. The bastard (can say what I wan’t as I’ve heard they don’t have the internet in the Us so there is no chance he can read this)

The next Eleventh will be focusing on this……

Apologises for the over excited french bloke there.

here is the second part

So in the new show I actually took on Tim from the Chess boxing world……. did I beat him? well I’m not gonna say am I? It should be up on Monday so keep ya peepers peeping.

Tiny Dancers

May 21st, 2008

A new day a new episode. and The eleventh Commandment finally washes up on some musical shores. And what better shores than those of the bleeps.

Now Remy the front guy has actually worked on this show, he did some of the fantastic graphics on some of the earlier episodes, but before the words nepo and tistic are bellowed from the roof tops or the word bribery I would just like to say that we did the show cause we think his music is top and on the bribery aspect the only thing I got off him was a Bleeps T-shirt which was a small. It didn’t even cover one of my ample moobs.

The people who were at the gig are were some of the most enthusiastic I’ve seen for a while. Maybe it was the free booze, maybe it was the music. Maybe there was acid in the water, I have no idea but an atmosphere the place definitely had (considering it was a clothes shop) and I was amazed at the dancing that was on show. I have witnessed that sort of body swerving before but it usually resides at the sweaty end of a club night.

So all in all I reckon we got a good show of them - my intense interview was one of the best I’ve ever done (is this sarcasm? I have no idea myself) and James’s camera work was as usual of the highest order (although he did have a few old man “its a bit noisy” moments. He can’t help it now he’s forty)

The only down side to the whole night was after the gig we didn’t get invited to the after-show party (to be honest though would you invite us!)

Oj and James

Yes its finally cut, and ready to be seen…Oj Meets and gets to listen to the Bleeps at the Launch of their new single “These things happen and Doing so well at the Carahartt store in Covent Garden.

What the bleep!

May 19th, 2008

Gotta go with OJ on this one these guys were really good, though they did get a tad loud by the end of the session (I’ve got this ringing thing in my ears called tinnutitis or something..loud noise and it don’t mix..)

Nope didn’t get a free tshirt either or a beer!!! OJ at least got 5 of those and did he share …..

The Bleeps

May 19th, 2008

A great night out….We went to the carhartt store in Covent Garden to check out the Bleep’s new double a side single ‘ These things happen and Doing so well”

I thought I would at least get a free T shirt..but nah these indy bands are as tight the labels with their money..guess they need to be so that they can spend it on all that sex, drugs and rock n roll stuff…

Can you lend me 2 grand?

May 16th, 2008

Because I have found quite possible the best item in life.

Watch it with sound then start saving….
