Feel the wind baby!!
Nope OJ hasn’t been on the baked beans but he did spend Tuesday of this week flying a kite and we’re not talking about a small little play kite but full on traction Kites. Yup we went out and shot a show on kiteboarding or landboarding to be more exact. We had been waiting for 4 weeks now to shoot this show due a combination of bad weather, no wind and OJ getting his pedicures and manicures done. Finally on Tuesday the sun was beaming, there was just enough breeze and we got the call from our interviewee Mark from kite school kitevibe , he said it looked like we had our window so without further adue the A team kicked into action and we headed over to Richmond park.
We met Mark on the rugby pitches (the only place your allowed to fly kites in Richmond Park during the winter months) and got straight into it. Remy the second cameraman had never seen Deer before or breathed such fresh air , for a London lad it was all too much for him so he got a killer headache…he plowed through the shoot ok but at the end had to have a lie down..shame we only discovered right at the end that we did actually have some pain killers with us…
I have to say I have been kiting for about 6 years and was disappointed to see how well OJ (who was a kite virgin) took to the sport. He tried the no depower kites, traction kites, then moved onto bars and then to the depower systems (love the Ozone Frenzy which I tried too :)..it was a rush crash course and within 3 hours OJ was on a landboard..I put it down to Mark’s great teaching rather than OJ’s natural skill..if only I had had an instructor like this..he took a few tumbles and got dragged by the kite a few times but unfortunately nothing too mental..I did a course at Moon Beach Egypt a few years back and got dragged 80 meters up a beach stopping just before a construction site, shredded my wetsuit and my ass, had to be rescued in Cornwall this summer and got my kite caught in a lobster pot near Bournemouth a few months back and broke a mates, he was launching me, foot…
Reckon it should be a good show so watch out for it.
